Poor Eagle

Last September my daughter Holly and her husband Mike adopted a pregnant Brittany Spaniel.  I wrote about them here.  This morning Holly called me to say the puppy they kept, Eagle, had died suddenly last night.  They kept Eagle because of a known heart defect but they never expected him to die so young -- not even 9 months old.

Things were going well until last night when they were out in their yard and Eagle starting yelping horribly.  In less than 15 seconds he was gone.  Mike tried chest compressions and breathing into his mouth but it was too late.  Eagle's mother, Dottie, tried pushing him with her nose, and finally just started licking him, like she did when he was a newborn.  Very sad for everyone.  Mike's dad, a retired veterinarian, said it was most likely a massive heart attack.

Mike mixed up some cement and together they made paw prints for Eagle, adding his name and the dates.  It will be a stepping stone in their garden.  There's a little pet cemetery on their property and that's where they've buried him.  Poor little guy.
